The Montagu Arms - History
Situated
in the historic town of Tandragee, only a
stone’s throw from Tandragee Castle, the
Montagu Arms offers the perfect setting for a
well run guest inn boasting top class bar,
restaurant, lounge and bedroom facilities.
Originally one
of the oldest public houses in Tandragee, the
building has been sympathetically renovated and
extended by current owners C.H.C. Properties
Ltd. to bring it right up to date for the New
Millennium.
However, the inn
still retains strong links with the past and
with its historic surroundings. Indeed the
Montagu Arms takes its name from Lord Robert
Montagu whose father, the Duke of Manchester,
was lord and master of Tandragee Castle. During
the early part of the 19th century it
was a favourite resting place for travellers
passing through the flourishing market town and
for locals seeking refreshment and an hour or
two of the famous friendly banter that has
become known as Irish ‘craic’.
Now, at the
start of the New Millennium, the Montagu Arms
once again provides a welcome haven, this time
combining Olde Worlde charm with 21st
century technology.
Guests can expect
a warm reception and high standards of service
from all staff whose aim is to ensure that each
and every visit to the Montagu Arms is an
enjoyable one.
